Lecturer in Agricultural Sciences at The University of Galway

The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway invites applications for Lecturer Type B in Agricultural Sciences, commencing July 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are welcome from candidates with strong expertise in Animal Science, particularly animal reproduction and/or animal health, and a research focus that aligns with either the “Sustainable World” or “Infectious Disease” research themes within the School. The post-holder will be expected to collaborate closely with Teagasc (Ireland’s Food & Agricultural Development Authority) to co-deliver modules on the School’s Agricultural Science BSc programme. This exciting new BSc programme aims to equip the next generation of agribusiness professionals with the skills necessary to deliver food security alongside a sustainable and resilient, climate-neutral bioeconomy. There is a strong emphasis on combining technical skills in livestock, crop and farm management with a broader perspective on food system and landscape transformations necessary to deliver a genuinely sustainable and resilient economy. The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing team of world-class academics in the Plant & Agri-biosciences discipline within the School, bringing animal science expertise to complement existing expertise in agricultural genetics, farm business planning, nutrition, and life cycle (systems) assessment. The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of livestock systems (cattle, sheep, pigs and/or poultry).
