Presentation: Whole-farm feed efficiency on British dairy farms



Phil Garnsworthy is Professor of Dairy Science and Head of Animal Sciences at the University of Nottingham where he has worked since 1980.

Phil leads the AHDB Research Partnership on Animal Health, Welfare and Nutrition. His research covers all aspects of dairy production, including how nutrition affects rumen function, milk yield and composition, methane and nitrogen emissions, body condition score, metabolic hormones, cow fertility and whole-farm feed efficiency.

The main theme of his research is to optimise resource use and profitability of animal production systems whilst reducing their environmental impact.

He has published more than 200 academic papers, supervised more than 30 PhD students, and given presentations in more than 40 countries.
