Session: Research into Practice

Presentation: Participatory work to engage farmers in research

Dr Christina Marley is a Reader of Sustainable Agriculture and leads the Animal Systems Research Group at Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Science at Aberystwyth University.

Christina leads multi-disciplinary project teams working on pasture-based agriculture, with a focus on improving resource use efficiency so as to maintain and promote sustainable livestock systems.

Specific research interests include the optimisation of nutrient use from soil to animal products within low-input, high-forage ruminant livestock systems - to reduce reliance on imported feeds, fertilisers and to improve animal health.

With over 20 years of agricultural science experience, much of her research adopts a participatory approach to ensure the work provides benefits to farmers and has an impact on the agricultural industry. This approach has led to these participatory projects being used as examples of Research with Impact as part of IBERS translational agenda.
